MEWAT: Over 20 lakh people in Mewat, Alwar and Bharatpur will observe 'Black Eid' on Monday. The muslim community here has decided to show their anguish following the lynching of 19-year-old Ballabhgarh resident Junaid. The muslims from the three districts will tie a black band on their arms during the Eid's namaz. However, the struggle against the branding of Muslims as cow slaughterers will continue even after the festival is over, they say.Junaid and his brothers were stabbed in a local train when returning home after shopping for Eid in Jama Masjid area of Delhi. While Junaid died on the spot, his brother Shakir is still in ICU at AIIMS.The incident has peeled open the wounds of Pehlu Khan's death. The 55-year-old dairy farmer from Mewat was lynched by cow vigilantes on April 1 in Behror, Alwar of Rajasthan. The vigilantes rampaged the vehicle Khan was travelling and attacked him. Somehow, cops intervened and took Pehlu to hospital. He died of the wounds at a hospital in Behror two days later.Fabric shop workers in Mewat preparing black bands for Monday's protest.Earlier this month, the community here did its best to wash away the stains of cow slaughter controversy surrounding Pehlu's murder. Over half a dozen Iftaar parties were organised in Mewat during Ramdan where beverages and dessert prepared from cow's milk were served. But Junaid's killing makes them feel that all efforts were in vain."Earlier there was Pehlu Khan, now there is Junaid. We are making efforts to change the perception towards the Muslims as cow killers but everytime people see a Muslim carry food or a cow, they are labelled as cow killers or beef eaters. If Junaid indeed had purchased beef from Delhi then how come it was being sold there? The actual scuffle was on seat, but they used jibes to humiliate and corner the victims. We want this to end," said Sher Mohammed , head of Rajasthan's Meo Panchayat.Following this, over 80 leaders of the Muslim community and clerics from Mewat in Haryana, Bharatpur and Alwar in Rajasthan held a meeting on Saturday. The meeting was conducted in Nuh's Old Rest House and was headed by Sher Mohammed, head of Rajasthan's Meo Panchayat. Following the two hour long meeting, it was decided that the community will observe "Eid with Black Band" this year. All Muslims will tie a black band on their arms while offering the Eid's namaz.Besides informing the respective sarpanchs, the community leaders are using social media to spread the message wider. Facebook and Twitter went viral with the message to urge people to observe a Black Eid this year. Soon, many Mewatis changed their DPs on Facebook to black. While, #EidWithBlackBand trended on Twitter and got support from Muslims in Middle East countries too. On Sunday, the fabric shop owners and residents spent their day preparing black bands which will be worn on Monday. The struggles will continue after Eid too. The community plans to hold protests in Delhi after the festival is over."We will hold a mass panchayat on Tuesday in which further plan of action will decided in this matter. We intend to hold protests in Delhi till this tagging of the community doesn't end," said Ramzan Chaudhary , Mewat-based social and political activist.
