Tourists write to PETA on cruelty to elephant

It was really, really horrible. When this occurred about 8 men ran out with sticks and began to beat the poor elephant. But what was ghastly was that they continued even after the elephant had stopped and was cornered. Obviously they are acting out because they are miserable," wrote Nayiri Miller, an American tourist, to PETA. I also authorize my photo to be sent out wherever necessary and made public, hopefully viral so that this cruelty can be stopped," appealed Miller.

Jaipur: Sunday was a harrowing experience for a few American tourists at the Amber Fort. While the group was doing the rounds of the fort they witnessed a lot of hue and cry and saw a group of men ill treating an elephant and hitting it with sticks and 'ankush' to bring it under control. The group has filed a complaint with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and circulated the pictures on social media appealing for support to stop this cruelty to the elephants at Amber."I am an American visiting Jaipur. There is a place where elephants take people up a hill to Amber Fort, a historic site. The temperature itself is already bad enough for these poor animals. We were witness to two elephants running, trying to escape the captive conditions. Our tour guide explained that they act out because it is hot! When this occurred about 8 men ran out with sticks and began to beat the poor elephant. This went on for about 5-10 minutes. But what was ghastly was that they continued even after the elephant had stopped and was cornered. It was the most awful thing I have ever seen and this small paragraph is not enough for me to describe the trauma we experienced witnessing this. Obviously they are acting out because they are miserable," wrote Nayiri Miller, an American tourist, to PETA."Please help these poor creatures. It was really, really horrible. Please contact me regarding updates or questions. I also authorize my photo to be sent out wherever necessary and made public, hopefully viral so that this cruelty can be stopped," appealed Miller.
