BSF organises drug abuse awareness programmes

JAISALMER: On International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the BSF here and at other units in Bikaner and Ganganagar organized various awareness programmes . Lectures were also organized by BSF officers to bring awareness among locals.In Jaisalmer, BSF has launched awareness campaign at various border areas to stop the increasing trend of using drugs . BSF is not only guarding the border but is also making people aware on various issues. Even a campaign was launched to create awareness among truck drivers. BSF battalions 46, 135, 161 and 6 led by Jaisalmer BSF sector north DIG Amit Lodha organized many programmes.According to BSF official sources, commandant of 46th battalion Prithvi Singh led four-level programme in which awareness was created through posters, banners, speeches to educate people to keep them away from drugs.

The programme was organised under Rajasthan Frontier IG Anil Paliwal. Cycle, motor cycle and other vehicle rallies were organized. Banners were displayed on vehicles and pamphlets were disturbed among locals. The main objective of this campaign was to tell people, especially in rural areas about the ill-effects of drugs and to build an atmosphere to stay away from these things.At the international level, illegal exchange of drugs has become a subject of concern. UN General Assembly on December 7, 1987 decided to celebrate June 26 as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.According to BSF sources, as per the recent report of UN, India is becoming a major consumer of heroine. It is to be mentioned that heroine is made out of opium and in Jaisalmer area, consumption of opium is increasing which is a cause for concern. The youth are getting into the grip of drugs.Along with urban areas, even rural areas are using drugs and even committing crimes under its influence.Therefore, consuming drugs is not only bad from health point of view but it is associated with society and crime as well. BSF is not only guarding the border but is also making people aware on various issues.
