Driver kills youth after tiff over fare, held

JAIPUR: A pick-up driver stabbed to death his 30-year-old passenger after a tiff over fare in Chomu in Jaipur on Monday night. The Jaipur police have arrested Shiv Pal Choudhary (30) and registered a case against him under Section 302 (Murder ) of IPC. Shiv Pal Choudhary, a resident of Ringas, asked Mangal and his brother to sit inside. "Initially, Choudhary asked Mangal that he will charge Rs 10 to drop them near Todi circle in Chomu. Near Chomu circle, Mangal's brother stepped out of taxi to meet his friend, as soon as they Todi circle, the driver asked Mangal that fare will be Rs 15," said JS Solanki, SHO, Chomu police station.Mangal refused to pay extra Rs 5.

The accused also thrashed the victim's brother who was travelling with him.The incident occurred at 10.30 PM near Harmara area when the victim, Mangal Singh Kumawat, an accountant by profession, hailed a taxi. Shiv Pal Choudhary, a resident of Ringas, asked Mangal and his brother to sit inside."Initially, Choudhary asked Mangal that he will charge Rs 10 to drop them near Todi circle in Chomu. Near Chomu circle, Mangal's brother stepped out of taxi to meet his friend, as soon as they Todi circle, the driver asked Mangal that fare will be Rs 15," said JS Solanki, SHO, Chomu police station.Mangal refused to pay extra Rs 5. "Mangal said that he will not pay a single rupee more than what Chouhdary had asked before the ride, this enraged Shiv Pal Choudhary who drew out a knife and stabbed Mangal repeatedly," Solanki said.After stabbing Mangal to death, Choudhary fled from the spot. He allegedly took out wallet from Mangal's pocket and took away cash and gold chains. "Mangal was lying on the road, writhing in pain and screaming for help. He was bleeding profusely and was declared dead upon arrival by doctors," added a senior police official.Mangal's relatives and other people were informed about his death and they reached the spot and shouted slogans, demanding the arrest of the murderer. The Chomu on early Tuesday morning retrieved CCTV footage of the area and identified Choudhary's escape route. "The victim's brother also identified the driver; we raided a house and arrested him. He was planning to escape to Sikar," a senior police official told TOI. The Jaipur police have arrested Shiv Pal Choudhary (30) and registered a case against him under Section 302 (Murder ) of IPC.
