Farmer ends life in Kota, toll at 4

Kota: A 32-year-old debt ridden farmer committed suicide by consuming poison in Kota. This is fourth case of farmer suicide in Hadauti region in past two week.With toll is on the rise, government and local administration are in denial mode. Three farmers- 30-year-old Sanjeev Meena, 66-year-old Bardhi Lal Rathore and 60-year-old Sheikh Hanif - from the region had committed suicide last week. "Visra has been sent to laboratory and exact reason behind suicide will be clear after thr reports come and investigation into the matter is over,'' he added.At least four other farmers have committed suicide in Kota region in June. "The farmer had returned home after selling garlic at a mandi in Baran city and drank liquor after which he consumed poison," said Narayan Singh, SHO of Ayana police station.

State agriculture minister Parbhu Lal Saini said he would quit politics if it's proved that any of the farmers has taken the extreme step due to agriculture crisis or debt.The deceased, Murlidhar Meena (32), used to cultivate garlic in Sitapura village. He was rushed to the hospital on Monday night and died during treatment."The farmer had returned home after selling garlic at a mandi in Baran city and drank liquor after which he consumed poison," said Narayan Singh, SHO of Ayana police station."He is likely to have taken the extreme step due to some family problems as his wife went to her parent's home with children last evening. He spoke to his in laws and wife over the phone before taking the extreme step,'' said the SHO adding reason behind suicide is not clear yet.In police report, family members of the deceased have claimed that he was upset and depressed over huge agriculture debt, the SHO said.According to family members, after selling garlic on Monday night, Murlidhar found that his produce fetched very low price. He took loan from Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and other banks.The body was handed over to family members on Tuesday morning after autopsy and a case under Section 174 of CrPC was lodged in this connection, the SHO said."Visra has been sent to laboratory and exact reason behind suicide will be clear after thr reports come and investigation into the matter is over,'' he added.At least four other farmers have committed suicide in Kota region in June.
