Pregnant woman dies allegedly due to doc negligence in Baran

Kota: A nine-month old woman (30) died late on Tuesday night allegedly due to negligence by the doctor at community health centre (CHC) at Mangrol town of Baran district. Dr Girdhar Gopal Nagar examined the patient and assured the family members of a safe delivery as her condition was reported to be normal. The woman late at night complained of labour pain following which Dr Nayyer Ali, the doctor-on-call, was called at around 12.30 midinght.

Kota: A nine-month old woman (30) died late on Tuesday night allegedly due to negligence by the doctor at community health centre (CHC) at Mangrol town of Baran district. The family members of the deceased, without informing the police, carried out the last rites on Wednesday morning and later created ruckus at CHC Mangrol. They damaged the centre's gates and vehicle of the doctor. Police have lodged separate cases on the report by the doctor against eight with names and 20 others and against the doctor on the report by the family members for negligence in handling the delivery case.A 30-year-old pregnant woman identified as Mamta Nagar, wife of Rajendra Nagar, a resident of Mangrol town was on Tuesday morning admitted at CHC Mangrol. Dr Girdhar Gopal Nagar examined the patient and assured the family members of a safe delivery as her condition was reported to be normal. The woman late at night complained of labour pain following which Dr Nayyer Ali, the doctor-on-call, was called at around 12.30 midinght. He, after examining Mamta's condition, referred her to district government hospital in Baran. The woman, due to labour pain is most likely to have suffered from cardiac arrest or uterus bust. The doctor-on-call found her in deep shock with faint heartbeat, said CHC in-charge Dr Umesh Vijay. The doctor on call Dr Ali immediately asked the family members to take her to district hospital as possibility of the survival of the baby still existed, he said.Gynaecologist Dr Malti Meena examined the pregnant woman on Tuesday night at district hospital after she was referred from Mangrol and following the examination, the doctor declared woman with her baby in womb 'brought dead', said Dr Sampat Nagar, Principal Medical Officer (PMO), Baran. The gynaecologist reported that the woman had crossed her pregnancy months, the PMO said and asked family members to stay for post-mortem but they took the dead body, he added.The family members along with a large number of locals and relatives, after the cremation, rushed to the hospital in Mangrol and created ruckus and raised slogans and alleged negligence by Dr Girdhar Gopal Nagar. They also attempted to manhandle the doctor and damaged the windows of his vehicle. They also damaged the hospital gates and other furniture. "The violent mob could have thrashed or possibly killed me if I had been there. I was in a meeting at the time of incident," said CHC in-charge Dr Umesh Vijay. The mob could not identify Dr Nayyer Ali so he escaped. Dr Ali said that the mob later reached his residence about one kilometre away on Itawa Road and pelted stones, however the gates of the home were locked from inside.Police reached the spot and controlled the situation and asked the people to lodge a report in this connection.On the report by the family members of the deceased woman, a case for negligence in treatment was lodged against Dr Girdhar Gopal Nagar, the doctor-on-duty at CHC, Mangrol, the SHO said. On the report by Dr Umesh Vijay, in-charge at the CHC, a case for damaging government property and halting the government functioning and removing the evidences was lodged against Rajendra Nagar, Sourabh Nagar, Rahul Nagar, Hament Mali, Swami Mali, Surendra Mali, Raju Nagar and Pramod Nagar and 20 others, SHO Jagdish Prasad Meena said.No one has been arrested in the matter, however, investigation is underway, he added.
