Jaipur: Senior police officers of the Udaipur Range have asked all its SPs, additional SPs and even SHOs to befriend people running various social networking groups and become members of these groups. This has been decided to keep a watch on the kind of messages going around and also keep a tab on those circulating them. Officers have specifically been asked to take prompt action whenever they come across any 'hate' message pro or against communities, castes and religions.After the After the heinous 'hate' murder case of Rajsamand, the social networking groups on WhatsApp have become a big threat and challenge for the Udaipur range of police including Udaipur, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur and Banswara districts. Many people are coming up for the support of Shambu Lal the alleged 'hate' killer and thus at various social networking platforms inflammatory messages are circulated which are aimed to disturb the communal harmony."A control room has also been set up at the district Collectorate, Udaipur to keep a tab on these messages. We have so far arrested at least 15 persons who were sending inflammatory messages," said Anand Srivastav, Inspector General of police, Udaipur Range while talking to TOI on Thursday.He added that every policeman in Udaipur range and its districts are into the job of getting themselves into such groups so that they can keep a track on what kind of messages are coming up. "It has become very effective for us which is the reason why we are getting various important information on things going on. I have specifically asked all my SPs and others to take prompt action as per provisions of IPC and IT act against those who are into sending inflammatory messages that can spread violence," Srivastav added.According to the sources, many policemen from an SHO of a police station to deputy superintendent of police(DYSP) have got themselves enrolled in the groups which they see as 'threat' to the communal harmony."I asked an admin of a group to make me member of his group while I claimed that I am for a particular community and its rights. After he agreed I got to messages in the group which were aimed at targeting a community. I have given the names and numbers of the people exchanging these messages to ensure they should all be brought to the books," said a senior police officer of Udaipur district.
