Petition to be filed in Vidhan Sabha on water-sharing issue, says Bains Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, July 15 Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) will be getting signatures of 21 lakh persons in 10 days in the state under the ‘Sada Pani Sada Haq’ campaign launched by the party. After this, a petition will be filed in the state Legislative Assembly to safeguard the interests of Punjab on the river water sharing issues. Simarjit Singh Bains, president of the Lok Insaaf Party, said this while addressing a press meet at a hotel here this evening. He said on the one hand Punjab’s soil was becoming barren due to the shortage of water and on the other, water was being given to Haryana and Rajasthan. He said the first stage of their struggle had been aimed at stopping the water going to Rajasthan. He said 14 lakh tube wells in the state are extracting underground water every day. If water being given to other states was provided to state farmers, the groundwater would be saved from depletion in the state and crores of rupees would be saved. In response to a question, Bains said if other states had to be given water, its price should be recovered, otherwise the water should be stopped. He said in 2016, it was passed in the Punjab Legislative Assembly that the price of water given to other states would be recovered but due to politics of votes, it could not be done, which is shocking for Punjab. When Haryana can charge for water, why can’t Punjab? Commenting on the statement made by Minister of State Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Bains said the state had a legal right on water and the statement given by Bajwa was wrong. He said if Haryana could recover a bill of water given to Delhi, why could not the Bill be raised and recovered for the water given to Haryana and Rajasthan by Punjab? Sidhu should leave Cong When asked about the resignation by Navjot Singh Sidhu, Bains said the Congress had become weak under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. Sidhu had resigned on June 10, but in a month Rahul could not convince Capt Amarinder Singh. He said Sidhu was a sincere and honest person, he should not only resign from the ministry, but also leave the Congress. Punjabis don’t like coalition parties When asked about the defeat of the PDA in the Lok Sabha elections, he said people of the state did not like coalition. That was the reason he had said before the elections that there should be one symbol, one programme and one president, then only the Congress and the SAD-BJP could be defeated. But it could not be done. Gurinderjeet Singh Bodal, Hardev Singh Kaunsal, Jagvinder Singh Ramgarh were among those who were present.
