Dist colleges defy government orders, remain open on holiday

Doaba College, GNDU Regional Campus, Laddhewali, DC Collegiate Senior Secondary School, DAV College, Dayanand Ayurvedic College, DAV Collegiate School, Lovely Professional University, PCMS SD College for Women, PCMS SD Collegiate School, GNDU College, Ladowali road, Apeejay College and International Public School, Avtar Nagar, were found open despite the orders. Majority of the students were confused this morning as they thought it would be a holiday. But to their surprise, the school and college managements decided to open their institutions despite the orders. A few of the colleges said the orders were for just for schools not colleges. However, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma confirmed that the orders were for all educational institutes and said he was aware about the matter.

Jalandhar, August 16 Violating the orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner after Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh during the state-level Independence Day celebrations here declared a holiday in all educational institutions of the district on Friday, many colleges as well schools were found open today. Doaba College, GNDU Regional Campus, Laddhewali, DC Collegiate Senior Secondary School, DAV College, Dayanand Ayurvedic College, DAV Collegiate School, Lovely Professional University, PCMS SD College for Women, PCMS SD Collegiate School, GNDU College, Ladowali road, Apeejay College and International Public School, Avtar Nagar, were found open despite the orders. Majority of the students were confused this morning as they thought it would be a holiday. But to their surprise, the school and college managements decided to open their institutions despite the orders. Parents were also a harried lot as they were not clear about the decision. Some parents also took to social media complaining about schools and colleges and requesting the district administration to take strict action against them as orders were meant for all institutions and they should have abide by it. Calling it a blatant violation of the government orders, District Education Officer (Secondary) Harwinder Pal Singh said he called the school management committee of DC Collegiate Senior Secondary School when he got the information in the morning, but the school authorities quoted that to celebrate the Independence Day function, the school was open, while for other schools he said he would order a probe into the matter. A few of the colleges said the orders were for just for schools not colleges. However, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma confirmed that the orders were for all educational institutes and said he was aware about the matter.
