Mukerian police to identify suspects from CCTV footage

The CCTV footage from the spot and its nearby areas is being sought by the police. When the police party reached Mansar, some youths on 15-16 motorcycles were trying to get the shops of Aman and Pawan closed. The ASI complained that when he and his companions tried to stop them, they pushed them and started pelting stones. The SHO along with a police party, Mukerian DSP Ravinder Singh and Tehsildar-cum-Duty Magistrate Jagtar Singh also reached the spot.

STONE PELTING DURING PUNJAB BANDH Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, August 17 The Mukerian police are trying to identify suspects of pelting stones in Mukerian during the Tuesday’s Punjab shutdown with the help of CCTV footage. The CCTV footage from the spot and its nearby areas is being sought by the police. The police have filed an FIR against unknown persons for pelting stones and restricting police personnel from doing their duty on a complaint of ASI Sukhdev Singh. In his complaint, he had said that he along with a police party was on a patrolling duty in the Bhangala-Mansar area in connection with the Punjab bandh. When the police party reached Mansar, some youths on 15-16 motorcycles were trying to get the shops of Aman and Pawan closed. They were shouting to close the shops. The shopkeepers called several other local residents and the two groups entered into a scuffle. The ASI complained that when he and his companions tried to stop them, they pushed them and started pelting stones. Seeing that the crowds getting out of control, he informed the Station House Officer of Mukerian police station. The SHO along with a police party, Mukerian DSP Ravinder Singh and Tehsildar-cum-Duty Magistrate Jagtar Singh also reached the spot. When they could not succeeded to control the crowd, the Mukerian DSP informed the SP (headquarters) Balbir Singh. He too reached the spot with police force but the crowd was uncontrollable. Several persons and police personnel were injured due to stone pelting. Later, DSP Ravinder Singh took permission of the Tehsildar-cum-Duty Magistrate for firing in the air and only after that the crowd dispersed from the place. Based on the complaint, an FIR under Sections 160, 186, 353, 506, 148, 149 and 332 of the IPC was registered against unknown persons. ASI Sukhdev Singh, who is investigating the case, said: “We are trying to get CCTV footage from various sources in and around the spot. Footage has been sought from people around there and in a couple of days it will be procured. After it, the suspects will be identified and action will be taken against them.”
