550TH PARKASH PURB Jalandhar, September 14 To commemorate the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak, the Surjit Hockey Society with the support of CBSE School Association, Jalandhar, would distribute sports kits to 550 budding players from across the state. A decision regarding this was taken by the association during a meeting with Jalandhar DC-cum-president of the Surjit Hockey Society Varinder Kumar Sharma. The members said a kit would have composite material such hockey, track suit, and hockey ball. The association said 550 students would be selected on the basis of their performance. Welcoming the decision of the association, the DC said the initiative would give a major fillip to sports in the state. He said the association had been playing a pivotal role in the promotion of sports and other social activities in the district. Sharma assured of support and cooperation to the association for any such noble initiative in the district. The DC also constituted a committee under working president of the Society Olympian Pargat Singh to select the winners. The committee would have Amrik Singh Pawar, Iqbal Singh Sandhu, Lakhwinder Pal Singh Khaira and LR Nayyar as members. It would shortlist the names and submit these to the DC. On the occasion, president of the association Anil Chopra (Saint Soldier Group), Charanjit Singh Channi (CT Group), Anoop Bowry (Innocent Heart Group) and Narottam Singh (State Public School) were also present. — TNS
