Aparna Banerji Jalandhar, September 15 Superintendent of the Children’s Home for Girls at the Gandhi Vanita Ashram has joined her duty against pending inquiry as per the Social Security Department. Despite five previous escape bids, and another one yesterday, month after Manjit Kaur was deputed at the Gandhi Vanita Ashram again. The department has absolved the superintendent of any irregularities during her tenure. While it is fair to expect the government to put a gap of at least a year before posting an officer back to a place where she faced charges of “gross irregularities”, in Manjit Kaur’s case, some exceptions have certainly been made. Suspended as superintendent of the Gandhi Vanita Ashram’s Children’s Home for Girls in March, the ashram saw five escapes/escape bids and a suicide during her previous tenure. While everything stayed peaceful in her absence and escape bid again took place, a month after she rejoined the ashram. Why Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma on Saturday said he had no knowledge of Kaur being posted back at the ashram, the Social Security Department today said the lack of a female officer at ashram and Manjit Kaur being absolved of wrongdoing in the first enquiry report against her, were the primary reasons why she had been posted back. Notably, the department said the report of a second enquiry against her is ending. Gandhi Vanita Ashram case
