Governor’s best village of state award for Hoshiarpur village

The village has won the award for its outstanding work in terms of agricultural production as well as conservation of natural resources. Informing this, the PAU, Director of Extension Education, Jaskaran Singh Mahal, said: “Todarpur has established its identity as a forward-looking village. Farm literature was also distributed in the village for providing technical information to the farmers. Similarly, different methods were used for the management of paddy straw for 50 per cent area, paddy was ploughed in the fields in 31 per cent area and straw under six per cent area was used by milk producers for grazing cattle.

Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, September 18 At Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Kisan Mela, Todarpur village of Hoshiarpur has been selected for the Governor’s Best Village of Punjab Award. The village has won the award for its outstanding work in terms of agricultural production as well as conservation of natural resources. The award will be given at the farmers’ fair on September 21-22. Informing this, the PAU, Director of Extension Education, Jaskaran Singh Mahal, said: “Todarpur has established its identity as a forward-looking village. This small village with 433 houses has 100 farming families. Besides wheat and paddy, dairy farming and auxiliary trades have also been adopted at domestic level at the village.” He said: “As many as eight training camps, 12 group meetings, two field days, six awareness campaigns, 12 farmers and scientific interactions and 45 field exhibitions were organised at the village with the help of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur.” As many as 57 soil samples were inspected and soil health cards were prepared. The villagers were provided 75 vegetable kits, 40 fruit saplings, 15 quintal paddy and 70 quintal wheat seeds. Farm literature was also distributed in the village for providing technical information to the farmers. The farmers changed their mode of farming by adopting recommended varieties, agricultural diversification, laser levelling, straw maintenance and integrated pest management, which increased their income and profitability with decreased inputs. Due to its continuous association with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, just two hectare area was sown with Happy Seeder in 2013-14 which has now increased to 43.2 hectares in 2018-19.
