Senior national wrestling c’ship from Nov 29

The championship will be held at PAP Grounds here from November 29 to December 1. “We have invited every aspirer as they have a chance to learn from such doyens in the field,” said Kartar Singh. “We have Graeco-Roman wrestling players Harpreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh. I have high hopes from them that they will come out as best players in the championship,” he added.

Jalandhar, September 19 Dedicated to 550th Birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the senior national wrestling championship is going to be held in the state after a gap of 24 years. Interestingly, the championship will pave the way for Olympics 2020. The championship will be held at PAP Grounds here from November 29 to December 1. Last time the event was held in 1996. As many as 1,300 players from all over the country are expected to take part in the event under 30 different weight categories. Kartar Singh, an Arjuna Awardee and president of Punjab Wrestling Association said: “Those attaining positions in the championship will get to another step of qualifying rounds for Olympics 2020.” He also informed that veterans like Bajrang Punia and Sushil Kumar will also participate in the event. He said: “Players from almost every state will participate in the event. Before the senior national championship, on October 18-19, Punjab championship will be held with a motive to train the players from the state for senior national championship.” The members associated with the event said: “The championship will tell the areas on which the players need more attention and training.” The federation has called an Iranian coach Moazen to impart training to the players at the PAP Grounds. “We have invited every aspirer as they have a chance to learn from such doyens in the field,” said Kartar Singh. “We have Graeco-Roman wrestling players Harpreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh. I have high hopes from them that they will come out as best players in the championship,” he added.
