Avneet Kaur Jalandhar, November 12 Member of Provincial Parliament for Mississauga-Streetsville, Ontario, Canada, Nina Tangri along with her husband Ashwani Tangri today paid obeisance at Gurdwara Ber Sahib in Sultanpur Lodhi on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of the Sikhism. Talking to the Tribune, Nina Tangri said it was a true honour for her to represent Premier Doug Ford and the Government of Ontario at the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev in Sultanpur Lodhi today. She thanked countless volunteers present at the event, Punjab Police and the Punjab Government for organising the well-coordinated event. The Canadian MP is also a businesswoman who deals in insurance and investment and has her in-laws at Bilga village in Jalandhar. She said she was on a two-week-long visit to India and had planned it specifically keeping in mind the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev as it was her long-pending wish to pay obeisance at historic Gurdwara Ber Sahib and she feels fortunate to be a part of the grand celebrations today. She said in coming days, she had meetings with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, industrialists from Punjab and other ministers to discuss the scope and opportunities of investing in the state, which further strengthen the relations between Punjab and Canada. She said she had plans to visit Delhi and Mumbai as well for some business purposes. Sharing her plans for her hometown in Bilga, Nina Tangri said another main purpose for her visit this month was that the school she and her family opened for children of their village was completing 25 years. “We have arranged a small function in Bilga to mark its silver jubilee,” she said, adding that a physiotherapy centre for the aid of handicapped and elderly persons was too going to be inaugurated soon.
