No shortage of gunny bags

Kapurthala: Punjab State Warehouse Corporation Managing Director Yashanjit Singh on Friday said the state had an adequate quantity of gunny bags for wheat procurement and farmers and arhtiyas would not face any difficulty during the season. He also visited Kapurthala Dana Mandi and talked to farmers and arhtiyas to have ground-level information about the procurement process. He said it was estimated that 1.3 lakh metric tonnes of wheat would be procured by various agencies in the state for which arrangements had been made for gunny bags and storage. He said the government would procure every grain of the farmers' crop for which the procurement of wheat had been extended till May 30. Yashanjit had been specially appointed by the state government to ensure smooth procurement of wheat in Kapurthala Jalandhar Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana under which he reviewed the procurement process in Kapurthala district. He also visited Kapurthala Dana Mandi and talked to farmers and arhtiyas to have ground-level information about the procurement process. He said it was estimated that 1.3 lakh metric tonnes of wheat would be procured by various agencies in the state for which arrangements had been made for gunny bags and storage. He also inspected procurement from all agencies as per the distribution of mandis. He said the government would procure every grain of the farmers crop for which the procurement of wheat had been extended till May 30. TNS Plan to conserve water released Jalandhar: An action plan has been released by the School Education Department regarding the activities to be conducted at various schools under the JaI Shakti Abhiyan. The events that will be held under the plan include students giving out innovative ideas to reduce water pollution in the nation and awareness programme on natural water bodies and watersheds of state. Apart from this seminars and webinars among various institutions will also be held to learn water conservation techniques. TNS Wheat Crop on 8-acres gutted Nawanshahr: Wheat crop on eight-acres of field was destroyed in a fire at Mahalo village here. Though fire brigade teams tried to douse the flames the entire crop was destroyed in the incident. Even some villagers made efforts to control the fire but in vain. Notably such incidents of crop being destroyed in fire have become common in the villages. TNS
