SNIPPETS Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Rural Police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang of inter-state thieves by arresting five members of the gang, including one having disability in walking. The police also seized 24 stolen motorcycles. The accused were identified as Ranjeet Singh (33), a resident of Jhanda Kalan in Mansa district, Jujj Singh (34) of Silewind, Bittu Singh (27) of Raun in Ferozepur district, Sukhwinder Singh (21) of Talwandi Buttian and Jora Singh (25) of Peepli in Jalandhar district. The police said the Lohian police station SHO got a tip-off about the accused while they were planning to commit a theft in the area. Acting on this, the police arrested five gang members after raiding Mahala village. During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to stealing 24 bikes from various localities in Bathinda, Muktsar, Kotkapura, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Sirsa and Fatehabad in Haryana. New-born dies at Raen Basera Jalandhar: A new-born died within minutes of taking birth inside the Raen Basera situated under the Domoriya flyover here on Monday. According to Sanjay, father of the new-born child, his wife gave birth and the family immediately called the ambulance 108 for taking her to hospital. Though the ambulance arrived there, before they could be taken to the hospital, the child died on the spot. Sanjay is a daily wager and is staying here with his family for the last five years. TNS ‘Harassment’ at driving centre Jalandhar: High drama was witnessed at the Automated Driving Test centre here today when a woman applicant was allegedly harassed by a worker at the centre. This led to a chaotic situation at the centre when the alleged victim’s husband, who was also present at the place, had a scuffle with the centre workers. Witnesses said the woman’s husband was allegedly beaten up by the victim’s husband. The matter later reached the bus stand police post, where the issue was sorted out with compromise. No formal complaint was made in this regard by any party. tns Youth commits suicide Phagwara: A youth, identified as Manoj Kumar (20), reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house in the local Piparangi locality on Monday. Depression was stated to be the reason behind his taking the extreme step, the police said. The police registered a case and sent the body to local Civil Hospital for post-morterm. OC
