SCHOLARSHIP BONANZA IN COLLEGES Jalandhar, May 26 As the admission season is set to start, almost all colleges have begun attracting meritorious students by offering various scholarship schemes to them. Almost all colleges have announced total freeship to any student getting 95 per cent marks in the board examination. Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya is offering many scholarships to meritorious students. The students achieving excellent marks will be given concessions in fee, says principal Prof Dr Ajay Sareen. She said at the entry level of undergraduate courses, total freeship would be given to the students achieving 95 per cent and above marks in board exams. “A Concession of Rs10,000 will be given to a student achieving 90 per cent to 94.9 per cent marks in the board exams. A concession of Rs 6,000 will be given to student achieving 85 per cent to 89.9 per cent marks in board exam and concession of Rs 4,000 will be given to student getting 80 to 84.9 per cent marks in the board exam. For subsequent years of undergraduate courses, total freeship will be given for first position in university, 50 per cent concession for second position in university and 35 per cent concession for third position in university,” she added. In addition, 25 per cent concession will be given to student achieving first and second position in college. Dr Sareen said that at the entry level of postgraduate courses, total freeship will be given for the first position in university, 50 per cent concession for second position in university and 35 per cent concession for third position in university. In addition, Rs 3,000 as sister concession, Rs 5,000 to fatherless student and Rs 7,000 to parentless student will also be given. Various government scholarships for meritorious and needy students will also be provided like GOI scholarship, post-matric scholarship, sports scholarships etc. Kanya Maha Vidyalaya too has announced scholarships worth Rs 1 crore to the brilliant and deserving students. Last year, nearly 500 students were granted various scholarships to facilitate girl students in pursuing their dreams. The college provides financial support and incentives to students with outstanding performance in academics, co-curricular activities and sports and to students with physical disabilities, besides helping the needy and economically weak students. This includes full freeship to students scoring 95 per cent marks and above and students achieving top position in the university in any stream. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi said, “The college offers an amount of Rs. 11,000 as scholarship to students scoring 90 to 94.9 per cent marks, Rs 6,500 to students obtaining 85 to 89.9 per cent marks and Rs 4,500 to students getting 80 to 84.9 percent marks. The students scoring second position in the university are given 60 per cent fee concession and those obtaining third position in the university get 40 per cent fee concession. The college provides up to 100 per cent free waiver for economically weak students and further helps them by offering free books, free Internet facility, free remedial classes and free personality development programme, foundation programme, yoga, self-defence classes and student counselling facilities. All college players get full freeship and free boarding and lodging facility. She added, “In the six vocational courses being run under the prestigious DDU Kaushal Kendra granted to the college by MHRD, Govt of India for promoting job-oriented skill development courses, the brilliant and deserving students are given fee concession up to Rs 5,500 despite the nominal fee structure i.e. 7,500 per semester. The Gandhian Studies Centre and the Women Studies Centre also contribute in empowering girls from under-privileged sections of society by providing them free skills development and entrepreneurial training and nearly 2,500 girls have been made self reliant so far. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi reiterated the commitment of the college towards the cause of women emancipation through providing educational opportunities to girls and by making all-out efforts to reach out to even the most marginalised class. Principal of Apeejay College Dr Sucharita said, “Those getting above 95 per cent marks get 80 per cent discount as they only have to pay 20 per cent of the fee component which is university fee. Those getting above 90 per cent marks in boards will be eligible for 50 per cent scholarship in the college. Besides, there are scholarships for first three position holders in the university.
