Sampla claims 50% SC dropout, colleges still uploading data

Portal opened late, Aadhaar linkage makes uploading tedious Deepkamal Kaur Jalandhar, November 10 A day after Union MoS Vijay Sampla claimed that the dropout rate of SC students at colleges had reached 50 per cent owing to delay on the part of the state government in sending their claims for availing Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, most colleges in Jalandhar shared that they had sent the details of their students this week or were still in the process for the current session. The college authorities said the portal punjabscholarships.gov.in on which they were to upload information opened very late as earlier there was some instability in the website, owing to which even the already uploaded information got partially deleted. Others complained that the Aadhaar linkage with every student’s account which had been made mandatory this time become a problem as the servers of the two sites were not able to handshake in the event of even a minor mismatch of data. The staff of Apeejay College of Fine Arts stated that they had sent the details to the government on Thursday, while those of DAV University were still compiling information today. The HMV College administration, too, stated that since some students were still coming, some data uploading was pending as of now. The DAVIET staff, too, said it had been just few days since they completed their process. The statements of the college authorities from across Sampla’s own home-town debunked his claim after he shared the information with the media during interaction here on Thursday. Our college just finished the work on Thursday.” An HMV College staffer said, “The uploading of data was so laborious and cumbersome that each entry was taking a lot of time. Even if we entered a minor spelling mistake or gave any extra gap in names, the data was not getting entered due to Aadhaar linkage this time. So we had to be extra cautious. The students, too, had to enter data separately and their information is still coming to us, which we cannot ignore.We are still in the process of uploading our college information in the server.” The state government had made it mandatory for colleges to provide Aadhaar link of every student after a fraud of crores of rupees on the part of colleges has been unearthed in the scheme. Duplication of data was found as earlier the funds were going to the colleges. This time, the reimbursed amount will go to the students’ account.
