CAR FALLS FROM BRIDGE NEAR BHUNTAR IN HP Jalandhar, November 20 A fun trip turned into a tragedy for five Jalandhar-based youths after their car fell from the Sangam bridge near Bhuntar in Kullu district today. The youths had gone to Manikaran Sahib Gurdwara to pay obeisance at the place and were later going to Kullu. Sangam Bridge, situated around 10 km from Kullu, is the confluence point of the Parvati and Beas rivers and the water level was reported to be high at the time of the incident. While Sarabjot Singh (17) died on the spot, Gurkirat Singh (18) drowned with the car and is reportedly missing even eight hours after the incident. The other three youths — Jasbir Singh from Nakodar, Ram Ahuja from Gopal Nagar and Satyam Kashyap from Sports market — who survived are in a state of shock. According to Kullu SSP, Shalini Agnihotri, the incident was reported at around 4 pm and seemed to be a case of rash driving. “Initial investigation hints towards a possible case of over-speeding but we are investigating the case. The three youths who have survived are in a state of shock and are not in a position to inform anything about the accident,” said Agnihotri. The families left for the spot immediately after getting the news. According to Amarjit Singh, a relative of the deceased youth, though Sarabjot’s elder brother was informed about his death, his parents are yet to be informed about the tragic incident. “We do not have the courage to inform them about the death. Sarabjot, along with his friends, had gone to pay obeisance at Manikaran Sahib for a better life, but his own life was cut short suddenly,” said Singh. Meanwhile, the Kullu police sent Sarabjot’s body for post-mortem and is conducting search operations.
