Will oust terrorists from Jammu and Kashmir, restore peace again: Rajnath Singh

The MEA had strongly responded to UN Human Rights Council's first report on alleged human rights violations in the region and said that it legitimises terror activities in Kashmir. LUCKNOW: Union home minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday that it is high time to crack down on terrorists and flush them out of Jammu & Kashmir. Singh said the government had been open to negotiation besides announcing a ceasefire during the holy month of Ramzan. "Singh, who was in the state capital on a two-day visit, said that the government was committed to restoring peace in the state while carrying out anti-terror operations. The government will do every thing to bring peace in the region.

The government is committed to ending terrorism and restoring peace in Jammu & Kashmir, he added.Speaking to reporters in Lucknow a day after BJP pulled out of alliance with PDP, bringing down the Mehbooba Mufti government in J&K, Singh said, "Our target is to end terrorism in Kashmir. The government will do every thing to bring peace in the region."Singh, who was in the state capital on a two-day visit, said that the government was committed to restoring peace in the state while carrying out anti-terror operations. Singh said the government had been open to negotiation besides announcing a ceasefire during the holy month of Ramzan. "But the situation didn't seemed to be cordial despite the best of the efforts," he said.Responding to a question on United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein reiterating the need for international access to Kashmir on both sides of the Line of Control to investigate allegations of human rights violations, Singh saidthe ministry of external affairs (MEA) has already registered its protest. The MEA had strongly responded to UN Human Rights Council's first report on alleged human rights violations in the region and said that it legitimises terror activities in Kashmir. It also criticised UNHRC for referring to terror organisations as 'armed groups' and terrorists as 'leaders'.Singh had on June 8 said that the government was ready for talks with anyone who was 'right minded' even if not 'like minded'. He had made it clear that it was up to the Hurriyat to decide whether it wanted to be part of talks and the Centre was in no hurry to seek separatists' presence.
