Ashok Khemka backs Jammu and Kashmir officer over ‘rapistan’ tweet

He was responding to a copy of the notice that Faesal had shared online.“Many misinterpret service rules. Service rules do not make you a servant of the ruler. Khemka responded, “Does the show cause notice contain the allegations you mention? Your allegations against Faesal strengthen the perception of bias against him. Indian philosophy encourages questions, debates, self-exploration. Weak minds are threatened.”On Tuesday, the J&K government had served notice to the 2010-batch IAS topper for his tweet which read, "Population +patriarchy +illiteracy +alcohol +porn +technology +anarchy = rapistan".In the notice, the government had has mentioned, "You have allegedly failed to maintain absolute honesty and integrity in the discharge of official duty and thus acted in a manner unbecoming of a public servant." The notice was served by the government after receiving a reference from the department of personnel and training (DoPT).Reacting to the notice, Faesal had tweeted, "Love letter from my boss for my sarcastic tweet against rape-culture in South Asia. The irony here is that service rules with a colonial spirit are invoked in a democratic India to stifle the freedom of conscience." Faesal is presently pursuing a mid-career programme in the US.
