7 crushed to death under boulder in J&K’s Reasi, 32 injured

JAMMU: At least seven people were crushed to death and 32 others injured when a boulder rolled down at a Siar Baba waterfall , a popular picnic spot in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district Siar Baba is a revered place on the bank of Chenab river , over 75 km from Jammu. “Most of the dead and injured belonged to Jammu district,” the officer said, adding that the injured include two tourists from Uttar Pradesh.Residents have alleged mismanagement. “Governor asked CEO to ensure that the cost of the entire treatment provided to the injured was borne by the Shrine Board,” said an official. It also has a temple of Lord Shiva and pilgrims bound for Vaishno Devi, besides locals, visit the place because of its waterfall and religious significance.Police sources said a group of people, mostly youth, were present at the Siar Baba waterfall, some 10-12 kilometres from Reasi town, when the loose rock and debris fell on them. “Five people were killed on the spot and two died at a hospital, taking the toll to seven,” sources said, adding that at least 3 of the injured are critical.Reasi senior superintendent of police Tahir Sajad Bhat said the rock came loose around 3.30 pm.
