The agitation of farmers against agricultural laws in Punjab and Haryana has led to increased petrol diesel crisis in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh due to rail service being disrupted. On Wednesday evening, HP, BPC and Indian Oil Depot in Jammu stopped supplying pump dealers.

The stock level of the three depots has reached the minimum level of MSL. In this, oil reserve is kept for army and emergency only. Petrol pumps are now sourcing oil from Jalandhar and Bathinda via tankers. It is taking at least three days to supply. Many petrol pumps in the city have stock left till Thursday, which can cause a ruckus for oil in the state.

By three o`clock on Wednesday evening, oil supply was supplied to some petrol pumps selling more than ten thousand liters from the three depots located at the railway station. But after that the supply was discontinued. These depots supply liquids like petrol, oil, kerosene etc. Petrol pump operators have been asked to take oil supplies from their tankers to other states. The three depots supply 400–450 tankers per day to Jammu and Ladakh. Due to non-availability of goods trains in Jammu, there has been a huge reduction in the supply of oil. Especially for Kashmir and Ladakh, there may be more crisis.

Stocks reduced at petrol pumps

At the Jewel Petrol Pump, Sham Singh said that he had stock of petrol till Thursday. If there is no supply of oil, then they will not be able to give petrol. It has a capacity of 24000 petrol tanks and two diesel tanks of 9–9 thousand liters. A tanker was supplied daily at this petrol pump, which is no longer available. It sells 3,000 to 5000 liters of petrol and 800 to 1100 liters of diesel daily. Diesel stock remains. Due to shortage of oil in the depot, supply is not available. Similarly, petrol pumps located near the secretariat demanded 9000 liters and 3000 liters of diesel, but they have been able to supply 6-6 thousand liters. A tanker supplies about 12000 liters of oil. The depot was dry on Monday, in which supplies were found only on Tuesday evening.

Queues started at many pumps amidst shortages, drivers queues at many petrol pumps of the city, amid shortage of diesel-petrol. There was a competition to put more diesel-petrol for emergency. In view of the crowd, some petrol pumps stopped the supply.

Problems will increase in snowfall affected areas

Since November, snowfall in Leh Ladakh and other mountainous areas stops for six months, due to which oil stocks are already stored in these areas. But due to acute shortage of oil, supply is not able to reach these areas, which will make it difficult to stock the oil on time. If the rail service is not restored, oil stocks will not accumulate in the mountainous areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Leh.

Oil can cause huge crisis: Association

The head of the Jammu and Kashmir Petroleum Dealers Association, Anan Sharma, said that the three depots from Jammu have stopped supplying pumps. Supplies are being carried out through tankers from other states. According to demand, supply is not available. On Wednesday, 72 vehicles were sent to Jalandhar and Bathinda to take oil supplies. By the evening, 40-45 tankers were expected to be filled. It takes a tanker at least three days to bring supplies. In which on reaching Jammu, the oil is supplied further only after unload, quality, quantity check. Due to which the supply of sufficient oil cannot be called by road. If the rail service is not restored, a huge oil crisis may occur in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in the coming days.
