Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR May 7: A local non-government organization Athrout with the help of district administration has converted the Hajj house in Srinagar into a hundred bed COVID Facility in Srinagar. The development has come when all the major hospitals are over crowded with patients and running out of oxygen or ICU beds in Srinagar. The NGO collaborated with the district administration to come up with a facility that has a 100-bed capacity with oxygen support. The facility has doctors oxygen cylinders and other facilities that are required for the treatment of COVID patients. The facility has 28 high-flow oxygen beds with a 15 to 20 LPM (liters per minute) and 75 beds reliant on oxygen concentrators that supply 5 LPM to 10 LPM of oxygen are kept ready in six halls of the building. “We have a target to create at least 200-bed facilities here. At this stage help of any nature is welcome. People should come forward to avoid crisis here” a senior member of the group said. The facility was set up to minimize the chances of shortage of oxygen beds as was witnessed in other parts of the country. “We thought God forbid if such a situation arises here there should be some makeshift facility where people can be treated. The facility was set up within three days with the help of the district administration and has both high flow and low flow oxygen available” he said adding that they have placed an order for oxygen concentrators and more beds would be made functional soon. He however said since it is not a full-fledged hospital it wont be able to treat critically ill patients. “We wont be able to treat critically ill patients but patients with mild symptoms or who are in recovering phase” he said.
