JAMSHEDPUR: As Ram Navami akhara samitis started playing festive songs from Friday (maha shashthi), district administration officials started paying surprise visits to the akharas to check the genre of songs played . They have earlier instructed all akhara samitis to play only those songs that are approved by the district administration.In the backdrop of growing popularity of inflammatory and objectionable songs among a large group of akhara samitis over the last few years and incidents of communal violence in the recent past, the district administration has decided to intervene and issue directives to curb this practice.A set of religious and devotional songs selected by the akhara samitis and vetted by the authorities are being circulated to the samitis through USB drives for playing till the immersion day on March 27.Realising the potency of the inflammatory songs in evoking objections from some quarters, DC Amit Kumar has made it evidently clear that any deviation from the approved list of songs will invite disciplinary action.Police officers and peace committee volunteers will monitor songs being played by akhara samities and shall pass on information to top cops for action against offenders."We are coordinating with the administration and akhara samitis to ensure the advisory is effectively implemented on the ground. In fact, a few peace committee volunteers have been instrumental in selection of the appropriate songs," Ram Babu Singh , a senior functionary of Kendriya Shanti Samiti , said."Notices have been issued to DJs on the genre of music they can play during the procession taken out by akhara samitis in the next three days and also during the immersion procession next Monday," the DC said.
