After cub, tigress dies at Tata zoo, probe announced

The female tigress Ahana was born to Shanti and Raghav on August 28, 2017 at the zoo itself. "Necessary measures taken on time helped the three tigers recover fast," a zoo official said.Meanwhile, the news of the death of two tigers has saddened animal lovers of the industrial town. "Ahana had not been eating properly since the last one week. "Investigation will be conducted," Dhalbhum DFO Saba Alam Ansari said without going into the contours of the probe.According to a forest official, the investigation will study the measures undertaken by the zoo authorities following detection of Babesiosis disease that killed the cub and the tigress within a gap of eight days. She was put under symptomatic treatment for Babesiosis and her condition started deteriorating in the last two to three days and eventually succumbed to the disease," zoo owner Tata Steel said in a press communication.The company has also maintained that currently five tigers are at the zoo, of which two were not infected by the disease but three are on road to recovery.

JAMSHEDPUR: Stung by the death of a cub and a tigress within a span of one week at the Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP), the forest department on Tuesday said it will investigate into the cause of the deaths and the procedures followed inside the zoo.A seven-month-old female tiger cub died of Babesiosis on March 18 and the tigress Ahana succumbed to the same disease on Sunday.Days after the death of three-and-half-year-old 'Ahana', the Dalbhum forest division confirmed that a probe is necessary to examine in detail whether everything is well at the zoo."Investigation will be conducted," Dhalbhum DFO Saba Alam Ansari said without going into the contours of the probe.According to a forest official, the investigation will study the measures undertaken by the zoo authorities following detection of Babesiosis disease that killed the cub and the tigress within a gap of eight days.
