IMD: Monsoon likely to arrive in Jharkhand on Wednesday

"The monsoon trough will touch parts of southeast and northeast Jharkhand which are close to West Bengal. The IMD in its recent long-range-forecast had predicted that northeast states will receive 95% of its average monsoon rains this year. With Jharkhand geographically sitting in between central and northeast states, it is expected to receive 95% rains this year," another officer in Ranchi IMD said.Monsoon in Jharkhand was also normal in 2017. "Conditions are likely to become more favourable for its advance into some more parts of West Bengal, Odisha and parts of Jharkhand in the subsequent 48 hours," the IMD added.R S Sharma, a senior weather scientist at Ranchi IMD, said, "It is expected that the southwest monsoon trough will arrive over parts of the state on Wednesday.

RANCHI: The southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in the state by Wednesday, weather experts at the Ranchi Metereological office said.The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its evening bulletin, predicted that conditions were becoming favourable for the onset of monsoon in more parts of Vidharbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and some parts of West Bengal and Sikkim in the next two days."Conditions are likely to become more favourable for its advance into some more parts of West Bengal, Odisha and parts of Jharkhand in the subsequent 48 hours," the IMD added.R S Sharma, a senior weather scientist at Ranchi IMD, said, "It is expected that the southwest monsoon trough will arrive over parts of the state on Wednesday. It will be a normal onset as monsoon usually arrives in the state between June 10 and June 12 of every year."The monsoon trough will touch parts of southeast and northeast Jharkhand which are close to West Bengal. "East Singbhum and districts in Santhal Pargana will be the first to welcome monsoon showers. The trough will cover other parts of the state gradually," Sharma added.Weather scientists are hoping for a good rainfall over Jharkhand during the monsoon this year. The IMD in its recent long-range-forecast had predicted that northeast states will receive 95% of its average monsoon rains this year. "Central states are expected to receive 96% rains as per our LRF. With Jharkhand geographically sitting in between central and northeast states, it is expected to receive 95% rains this year," another officer in Ranchi IMD said.Monsoon in Jharkhand was also normal in 2017. The cumulative rain in the state in the monsoon months (June 1 to September 30) was recorded at 978.8 mm, 10% less than the normal average of 1092 mm. Isolated pre-monsoon showers were recorded in different parts of the state on Sunday afternoon. Ranchi IMD had issued thunderstorm with lightning alert in Hazaribag, Ranchi, Khunti and Ramgarh.
