Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee launches drive against deviations from building plans

"The official explained that the purpose behind selecting under construction buildings is to identify and prevent further construction where the work is going on in contravention of the building by-laws. JAMSHEDPUR: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) on Sunday launched an inspection drive to identify all such under-construction buildings that are being built in violation of the approved building map by JNAC.A JNAC official said the accountability of the government officials responsible for unchecked construction of the buildings in violation of the standard building map will also be fixed in the drive. "Once the construction is over and the building is ready for use it becomes troublesome in dismantling the unauthorized construction as resource mobilization is required and safety measure requires to be taken particularly in the case of multi-storied buildings," Kumar said. He added that in the case of the aforesaid 12 buildings, the owners have been asked to remove the unauthorized construction voluntarily else the municipal body will deploy a team to bulldoze the unapproved construction.The JNAC has warned it will take penal action against the building owner and the builder if it has to remove the unauthorized construction forcibly. The urban municipal body has claimed that government engineers and revenue officials will be taken for task along with the architect and builder should the building found to be constructed in violation of the approved design and map.JNAC special officer Sanjay Kumar said, "In the last 24 hours, we have sealed 12 buildings that were being constructed in violation of the standard map.
