JAMSHEDPUR: The Chaibasa-Ranchi highway along NH-75 witnessed a serpentine queue of vehicles for nearly four hours on Thursday after a minor girl was mowed down by a speeding truck and enraged Chaibasa locals blocked the road.Vimla Bari , a Class VII student of Scot Girls School located close to the highway, was crushed by the heavy vehicle at Seraikela crossing under Mufasil police station around 7.40 am when she was on her way to school. The body has been sent to sadar hospital for post mortem.Angered by the incident, a huge crowd came out in protest and demanded immediate ban on movement of heavy commercial vehicles on the route in the morning hours. Police tried to persuade the crowd to lift the blockade, but they refused and resorted to a sit-in protest on the road. When police threatened to use force to disperse them after over three hours of negotiations failed to break the deadlock, some miscreants started pelting stones injuring a few personnel.Deputy SP (headquarters) Prakash Soy said two policemen sustained injuries and four residents received minor injuries after police were force to resort to lathi charge."The driver of the truck has been arrested and interrogation is underway," he said, adding that traffic on the highway resumed after 11 am.
