Train mows down three elephants near border of Jharkhand and West Bengal

More than 17 elephants have died in the state in human-inflicted incidents in the past two years. JAMSHEDPUR: Three elephants, including two adult females and a male calf, were mowed down by a Mumbai-bound superfast train at West Dumaria along the Jharkhand-West Bengal border around 1.40am on Tuesday.The elephants were crossing railway tracks between Chakulia and Gidhni stations on the Kharagpur-Tatanagar section of South Eastern Railway (SER) when they were hit by a speeding Jnaneswari Express about 95km from Tatanagar station, officials said.Movement of the trains on the up line was suspended for over eight hours while prominent long-distance trains plied on the down line.
