JAMSHEDPUR: Congress members on Sunday placed placards at different locations on the National Highway 33 to highlight the dilapidated condition of the lifeline that connects the state capital, Ranchi, to the nearest metro town Kolkata.Congress leaders put up placards with the words 'BJP haddi tod' written on them, at six different locations between Namkum and Baharagora State Congress president, Ajoy Kumar, who placed the placard at Pardih Chowk, an important inter-section on the important stretch held the state government accountable for the bone rattling condition of the highway.He said the government under chief minister Raghubar Das's rule is indifferent to the burning issue of the poor condition of NH-33. He accused the government of not being sincere to the plight of the commuters who ride on the potholed highway every day.Kumar said, "Around 700 people have lost their lives in 1,100 accidents on the NH in the past few years. Road construction agencies colluded with the people in the government to siphon off Rs 1,500 crore meant for highway construction."Announcing to continue the stir till the highway is made 'motorable' again, the Congress leader said his party will not let the government overlook the grave issue by hiding behind excuses. "The every-day problem of the scores of people who are subject to bone rattling ride on the NH-33 has to be addressed on urgent basis," Kumar said.
