Cops of 3 states, CRPF discuss ops against Maoists

Effective coordination between the security forces, engaged in fighting Left-wing extremism in their respective areas of command and frequent exchange of the intelligence between them, among other issues, were discussed at the meeting. "The issue of tracking down the wanted Maoist Asim Mandal alias Akash dominated the meeting of the security officials," an official present at the meeting said.The fugitive Maoist, who leads the squad of ultras in the Dalma-Belpahari stretch, is also a member of Maoist Coordination Committee.Notably, the meeting took place on the back of the launch of Operation Prahaar that aims to make a final assault on the Naxalities active in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharswan (Jharkhand) Medinipur, Birbhum, Purulia (Bengal) and Mayurbhanj (Odisha).The Central government has launched Operation Prahar this month to neutralize 25 top Maoist functionaries of the country including Akash, who apparently carries a reward of Rs one crore on his head. JAMSHEDPUR: The top police and CRPF officials of the adjoining districts of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand deliberated extensively on the road ahead to eliminate extremism from the region on Tuesday.The meeting, chaired by DIG (Kolhan range) Kuldeep Dwivedi at the district police headquarters here resolved to intensify combing operations against CPI (Maoist) and its splinter group, PLFI, apparently active in pockets of East Singbhum, West Singbhum and Seraikela-Kharswan districts that share its border with West Bengal and Odisha.The meeting which lasted for over four hours also discussed on ways and means to utilize new-age technological devices on larger scale for better implementation of the plan to hunt down the extremists.The issue of financial and logistics support to the ultras was discussed by the officials besides discussing on identifying and neutralizing the forces that are extending morale support to the banned outfit guerrillas.
