Police pin hope on rebel's family for surrender

JAMSHEDPUR: With the security forces failing to arrest the fugitive CPI (Maoist) zonal commander Ram Prasad Mardi alias Sachin despite several attempts, the district police has now pinned hopes on his family to convince him to surrender.The wanted rebel, who carries a reward of Rs 15 lakh on his head, escaped arrest more than six times in the recent past when the forces carried out search and combing operations in the forested hills of Patamda-Bodam-Galudih-Ghatshila police station areas bordering West Bengal Believing that his family could play a crucial role in convincing the rebel to quit the path of violence, SSP Anup Birthare met Sachin's family members in Patamda on Wednesday and requested them to ask him to surrender along with his squad members.
