JAMSHEDPUR: A week after East Singhbhum district superintendent of education (DSE) Shivendra Kumar said action will be taken against schools violating Jharkhand Education Tribunal (Amendment) Act, 2017, rules, show-cause notices have been issued to 16 private unaided English medium schools. Kumar on Thursday said schools have been given three days to respond about the total admissions they have made in the last three academic years.The schools also have to give the annual audit report of three financial years and also have to submit the details of their fee structure from nursery up to Class XII for these years. The Right to Education (RTE) district cell issued the notices to the schools on Kumar's instructions.A few parent's outfits had complained to Kumar that English schools are demanding exorbitant fees on the pretext of re-admission charges, which is against the law. Kumar has also received complaints about schools allegedly insisting parents to purchase students' uniforms from the school.One of the complainant, Ankit Anand of Siksha Satyagrah, said he has written to Kumar against the 16 schools on two separate dates. On January 23, the education department had said that it is likely to issue the notice to the schools against whom complaints have been made. The notice was issued on Wednesday evening."We have not received the notice yet, but will respond appropriately in a time-bound manner as soon as get it," said A K Pandey, media coordinator, St Mary's English School, which is among the schools that has been served the notice.
