New sports centre in Steel City

JAMSHEDPUR: A first-of-its-kind High Performance Centre (HPC) for sports excellence complete with latest high-tech equipment and laboratories came up in the Steel City on Friday. He added that the HPC will train sportsperson in the field of archery, hockey and football. Moreover, Jamshedpur Football Club players will utilise the centre.The HPC's manager Atul Kumar said, "Facilities such as an HPC lab, cryochamber, VO2 Max, hypoxic chamber, hydro poll bikes and HPC crossfit are available and are designed to help improve the stamina, strength, agility, flexibility, speed coordination and power of the players." Launched by the sports department of Tata Steel , the HPC has scientific equipment to support and enhance performance of athletes, specialised team of experts including strength and conditioning coaches, psychologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, masseuse and analysts to guide all round development of the trainees.The centre will also have technology support to conduct video and bio-mechanical analysis of the athletes which will enable the HPC experts to design a protocol for them.Inaugurating the centre, Tata Steel vice-president (CS), Chanakya Chaudhary, said, "The objective of the centre is to enhance the performance of sportspersons by ensuring physical and mental toughness in a scientific manner."
