RANCHI: The state police on Tuesday began a two-day training programme on poll process for officials of DSP and inspector rank at Jharkhand Armed Police headquarters here. Jharkhand Jaguar SP Rajeev Ranjan, who inaugurated the workshop, said, “Police personnel play a key important role in election process. Therefore, it is important that officers at all level are aware of the do’s and dont’s of the process to ensure free and fair polls.”Around 125 officers, including personnel of paramilitary forces, attended the training on the first day of the workshop.The training programme has been divided into two phases — the first involves educating the officials on various provisions of the model code of conduct while the second phase includes sessions on security procedure to be followed during elections. Experts from Hazaribag-based Police Academy addressed the participants on standard operating procedures to handle and diffuse IEDs and explosives.IED specialist Sanjay Rana, who briefed the police officers on Tuesday, said, “The safety of polling parties is a major concern during elections in LWE areas and the officers were trained on tactical movements and standard operating procedures on approaching polling booths in Maoist-affected regions.
