Automobile giant to hire widow of employee after MP’s intervention

JAMSHEDPUR: Tata Motors on Saturday agreed to award a permanent job to the widow of an employee who died during duty at one of its local plant on Friday. "Discussions have concluded between Tata Motors and all parties present. The decision came after political parties blocked the gates of the plant and staged a dharna outside Telco throughout the day.47-year-old Dhirendra Kumar, an employee of the auto transport department, died of cardiac arrest soon after reporting at work on Friday. As a special case, we have agreed to induct the wife of Dhirendra Kumar as trainee for one year and then on probation," Tata Motors spokesperson Arthur S Rao said.

Leaders and activists of political parties like BJP, JMM, Congress, AJSU, JVM(P), AAP sat on dharna after the company management refused to hire Dhirendra's widow, Punita Devi.However, the demonstrators relented after parliamentarian Bidyut Baran Mahato chaired a tripartite meeting with Dhirendra's family, company management and the agitating leaders. After the meeting, the company agreed to hire Punita."Discussions have concluded between Tata Motors and all parties present. As a special case, we have agreed to induct the wife of Dhirendra Kumar as trainee for one year and then on probation," Tata Motors spokesperson Arthur S Rao said."Along with other facilities, the company has agreed to provide services to the kin of the victim on compensatory ground in accordance with the established rules and norms of Tata Motors," Mahato said.As a result of the blockade, as many as 4,000 employees of the company were left stranded inside the plant.The political leaders, who were agitating outside the company premises, were joined by office bearers of the affiliated workers union of Tata Motors (Telco Workers Union).
