Asaram verdict: Section 144 imposed in Jodhpur

JODHPUR: Ahead of the pronouncement of the verdict in the 2012 rape case against self-styled godman Asaram on April 25, Jodhpur police on Saturday imposed Section 144 in the city to prevent any untoward incident. Section 144 would remain in place till April 30.The move comes in anticipation of reactions from Asaram’s followers in case he is convicted. DCP (East) Aman Deep Singh said police will focus on keeping Asaram’s followers out of the city and make it a “sanitised zone”. For the same reason, the trial court has decided to pronounce the verdict from Jodhpur central Jail, where Asaram is lodged.Police have also began coordinating with the control rooms of other districts and states in order to remain updated about the movement of his followers.
