Cops issue ‘notice’ to Barmer residents ahead of Vasundhara Raje visit

JAISALMER: Ahead of chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra in Barmer , local police issued a notice to residents refraining them from participating in any kind of protest and warned them of strict action if anybody was found to be flouting norms. It was later withdrawn.The notice was issued by Kotwali police station in Barmer and was handed over to residents in colonies surrounding Aadarsh Stadium on Thursday night, where Raje is scheduled to address a rally on Saturday. Police directed them not to allow strangers in their house and not to participate in any kind of protest on September 1, during Raje’s visit. The notice warned of strict action against them if anybody is found flouting the directions or seen on the terrace of their homes during VIP movement.This led to an uproar among the locals, following which the police was forced to withdraw the notice. Barmer SP Manish Agarwal said he was not aware of any such notice being issued to the residents. “People have been alerted against being involved in any kind of mischief or any untoward activity. However, no restrictions were placed on their movements,” he claimed.City police station SHO Surendra Kumar said the notices were issued “by mistake”. “After the orders of senior officers, the notices were withdrawn.
