JODHPUR: Former chief minister and AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot too has been seeking divine blessings, just like chief minister Vasundhara Raje , who makes sure to include every known shrine or temple in the itinerary of her Gaurav Yatra.Gehlot reached Jodhpur on Monday, ahead of the Congress Sankalp rally to be held near the Barmer oil refinery site at Pachpadra, on Wednesday. The Congress leader visited Phalodi, where he paid obeisance to goddess Latiyal Mata and then traveled to Ramdeora near Pokhran to bow at the altar of the local deity, Baba Ramdeo, on Tuesday.According to local Congressmen, Gehlot visited these two religious places and prayed for peace and harmony in the state.Raje too had paid obeisance at both these places on the first day of her Gaurav Yatra in Jodhpur division. She, however, had begun her journey from the Tanot Mata temple, some 150km from Jaisalmer towards the border.Phalodi’s Latiyal Mata is highly revered by the Brahmins, who have a strong presence in the area. Raje recently faced opposition in Phalodi during her yatra, as people here had shouted slogans in favour of Gehlot.The Congress has been aggressively preparing for the success of its Sankalp rally in Pachpadra, in order to ensure a huge turnout on Wednesday. “For this, the leaders and workers of the party have been travelling through the bordering districts like Jaisalmer, Barmer and Jodhpur, and are inviting the people, specially the farmers, in the rally,” said a party leader.AICC secretary in-charge of Rajasthan, Vivek Bansal, has been aggressively touring Jodhpur and Barmer districts and holding meetings after meetings in order to make the rally a huge success, hoping to give the BJP a demo of its strength, ahead of the polls due in December. “Those staking claim for Congress tickets in coming elections have been entrusted with the responsibility to bring as much crowd as possible for the rally and they have been putting in their entire might in order to figure in the eyes of the senior leaders,” said a party leader.
