JODHPUR: Now on, there will be no suspension of internet in the state during examination. An affidavit to this effect was submitted in the Rajasthan High Court by the government on Wednesday. The HC disposed of the PIL moved by one Dhirendra Singh after submission of this affidavit. The petitioner had challenged the decision of the government to suspend internet this year first in February during REET examination and on July 14 and 15 during police constable recruitment examination from 6am to 5pm terming it to be anti-people, unconstitutional and illegal.“This decision had led the people of the state, specially professionals, and offices to huge trouble, who were dependent on internet in discharge of their respective duties and professional obligations,” said the petitioner in his petition. His counsel Nitin Goklani had argued in the court that in the time to come, many examinations are going to be conducted by the state government and suspending internet during these examinations will be nothing but depriving the people of their rights and causing disturbance in various services.“Such extreme steps are meant for the cases of public emergency and for ensuring public safety but none was the case in the examination,” Goklani had argued. He further argued that before this, similar step had been taken in February this year during the REET examination stating that the practice has become a norm during examination now.The HC, while hearing the petition on July 25, had issued notices to the home department, state government and the divisional commissioner, who had issued the notification to suspend the internet seeking reply that where the power to issue the notification to suspend the internet was derived by the home department from and in how many exams, the internet will be suspended.
