Rajasthan assembly elections: Four days after clashes Lathi town still not normal

JAISALMER: The situation in Lathi town in Pokhran assembly constituency area in Jaisalmer district has not normalised even four days after communal clashes broke out here. Police, ITBP and BSF on Monday conducted flag March in Pokhran assembly constituency including Lathi, Bhaniyana, Ramdeora etc. to maintain harmonious atmosphere.After polling on Friday in Lathi town miscreants of a community pelted stones and set a few shops on fire. Although no untoward incidents were reported but police and Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) force are continuously patrolling the area. On the fourth day, the market in Lathi remained closed.

On the fourth day, the market in Lathi remained closed. Although no untoward incidents were reported but police and Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) force are continuously patrolling the area. So far seven culprits have been arrested. On the other hand, looking to counting of votes on Tuesday, internet services have been stopped for 24 hours till Wednesday night in entire Pokhran sub-division. Police, ITBP and BSF on Monday conducted flag March in Pokhran assembly constituency including Lathi, Bhaniyana, Ramdeora etc. to maintain harmonious atmosphere.After polling on Friday in Lathi town miscreants of a community pelted stones and set a few shops on fire. They also damaged vehicles. Villagers are still hiding in their homes. Although a few shops opened for some time, but they later closed. The situation is not returning to normal. Police and administration are making efforts to normalise the situation, but villagers are demanding that till all the culprits are arrested they will not open the shops.Jodhpur police range IG Sanjeev Narjari said police are investigating the case and the new SHO Om Prakash Vishnoi has been handed over the investigation. To maintain peace police have been deployed at various places. Police so far have arrested seven culprits, Gulam Kadar, Gafar Khan, Jamaldeen, Dilbar Khan, Anwar Khan and Sabir, all residents of Lathi.He said efforts are being made to open the shops by holding community liaison group (CLG) meeting and soon remaining culprits will be arrested. Police are alert and no untoward incident has taken place. Sarpanch’s husband Satyanarayan Paliwal said that there is still an atmosphere of fear in the village and people are sitting at home and shops are closed for last four days. Till main culprits are arrested the shops cannot be opened.Meanwhile, as per orders of Jaisalmer SP Jagdish Chandra Sharma, police ITBP and BSF conducted flag March in villages and towns in Pokhran sub-division area and asked people to maintain peace and law and appealed to people to not pay any attention to rumours.
