JAIPUR/JODHPUR: A 15-year-old boy was killed and several others injured after a school bus carrying 28 kids to a private school overturned following a problem with the vehicle's tyre in Pali on Thursday early morning.Surendra, a Class XI student, was declared brought dead by the doctors after he was critically injured in the accident . Another student of Class X is battling for his life and has been referred to Jodhpur for treatment. At least 18 other students are undergoing treatment at a Pali hospital and are stated to be out of danger. Speaking to TOI, Siriyari SHO Ram Niwas said the mishap took place near Jojawar village after a nut and bolt fell from the tyre of the speeding bus.“The driver claimed that the bus then hit a small pothole on the road and he lost control over the wheel. The vehicle overturned and rolled on the road, resulting in kids sustaining injuries,” the SHO said.Broken pieces of window panes cut the skin of many students. When the news spread, worried parents rushed to the hospital to look for their children. The parents and local residents alleged that the bus driver was speeding to reach the school on time and accused him of negligent driving.A crane was brought to the spot to tow away the bus. Doctors and nursing staff were helped by locals and passersby in the rescue operation.“The case is under investigation. Prima facie, it appears to be an accident resulting from a tyre problem. The driver did not flee but came to the police station and narrated his version of the incident. Some parents have alleged that he was speeding through the highway in order to reach the school on time. We are looking at that possibility too,” the official said.
