Usually, the student union president holds this post. After the decision, while entire NSUI cadre and Congress leaders canvassed for Choudhary, some BJP leaders put their might behind Pancharia by calling up voters, spread across the country.“Total 87 persons had the right to cast their votes for the post but only 45 exercised their franchise to vote as the rest were out of Jodhpur and could not come,” said the officer. Pancharia had sought to contest from ABVP in the student election but after being rejected by ABVP, he contested for the post of senior VP and defeated both the NSUI and ABVP candidates. Before this, a similar scenario had emerged in 1992, when the election was held for the student representative in the syndicate and the then university student union president Gajendra Singh Shekhawat had won.
