JODHPUR: Amid the resentment over not including the farm loans taken on Kisan Credit Card (KCC), loans worth Rs 25 lakh were waived off in Jodhpur on Thursday by the Jodhpur Central Cooperative Bank Limited. Total 157 farmers had their loans waived off in a function organized in Boranada near Jodhpur, in the presence of the Congress legislators, who appealed the farmers to vote for Congress from the dais, after distributing the certificates to the farmers.Managing director of the bank, Dhan Singh Deol said that maximum loan amount waived off was Rs 95,000 as per the calculation of loan amount upto November 30, 2018. Some farmers, however, complained that their fathers had taken the loan from the bank and their cases have not been considered for the loan waiver “My father had taken a loan of Rs 50,000 from the cooperative bank. He passed away in June last year. But his loan has not been waived off,” said a farmer Benaram. There were about half a dozen such farmers, who could not get the benefit of loan waiver on account of the demise of their fathers, who had taken the loans. About such complaints, Deol said that they have not been denied the benefit of the loan waiver scheme. “Once their record is available online, we would proceed with their loan waiver also,” he said adding that they need not be disappointed. On the other hand, there were many, who had taken loans from nationalized banks and on their KCCs, and were unhappy for not being counted under the purview of the loan waiver scheme. One Polaram Jat said that this was a biased step of the state government, terming it to be an injustice to many. “What is the use of having KCC when the government itself has not given importance to the farmers, beneficiaries under KCC,” he said.Adding to his statement, Mangilal, another farmer present in the camp, said that the cooperative banks give short-term loans upto Rs 1.5 lakh and for their needs of more than this, they have to resort to KCCs or banks. “Are those farmers, not the farmers? Such farmers have their risk bigger than those benefiting with this scheme,” Mangilal said, adding that neither there is proper loan waiver mechanism nor proper crop purchase mechanism for the farmers.Interestingly, there were also such farmers who had taken loan from the cooperative bank and repaid the same in time. Such farmers were regretful for having paid their loans in time. “I paid my loan honestly on time with interest and today I feel disappointed for being honest,” said a farmer Tejaram, who had come with other farmers of his area, some of whom were the beneficiaries of the loan waiver scheme. In total, loans worth Rs 454 crore of 1.02 lakh farmers will be waived off in entire Jodhpur district under this loan waiver scheme, through the camps, which began from Thursday.
