JODHPUR: A special POCSO court on Saturday sentenced an accused to life imprisonment for attempting rape on a 3-year-old girl last year. The court completed the trial in just four months and pronounced the judgment on Saturday.According to public prosecutor Dinesh Kumar Sharma, special judge of the POCSO Court Bannalal Jat handed out the judgement in a case wherein a 3-year-old girl had been picked up from Rai Ka Bagh railway station by one Kailash Chandra (21). He took the child into the nearby shrubs and was caught red-handed during the rape bid on October 11, 2018.“Around midnight, the victim, belonging to MP, was sleeping on the platform with her parents while waiting for a train to Jaisalmer, when Kailash Chandra, who was in an inebriated condition, picked up the girl,” he said.Not finding the girl around, her mother raised an alarm and informed the GRP, which began searching for the girl and found her in the nearby shrubs along with the accused. Police arrested the accused and sent the child for medical examination.Sharma said that a total of 30 witnesses had been examined during the trial of the case and the trial was completed within four months.Terming the crime one of the most heinous and barbaric, judge Jat said that the accused needed to be given the harshest punishment and sentenced him to life imprisonment.The accused was a daily wager, police said.
