JODHPUR: Seven antique guns belonging to the British era were stolen from Raj Bhawan in Mount Abu in Sirohi district on Saturday night. All these decorative pieces, mounted on the wall, were found missing on Sunday morning. Police have started investigating the matter.According to SP (Sirohi) Kalyan Mal Meena, out of the nine antique pieces, seven were found to be missing from the walls of the Raj Bhawan. All these have been on the walls of the building since the British era.“These are just decorative pieces put in the main hall of the Raj Bhawan in Mount Abu. We brought in forensic experts and have begun investigating the matter,” said Meena. As soon as the police received information of the theft, senior officials, including the SP and district magistrate, rushed to the spot and inspected the building.Since, the Raj Bhawan is the summer house of the governor of the state, there were no adequate security arrangements. Only three regular staff-a guard, a sweeper and a gardener-are routinely posted here.As the building does not have even CCTV cameras, police are relying on camera footage from an adjacent hotel behind the Raj Bhawan. These cameras have shown four persons entering the building from its back side and returning with objects that looked like guns in the night through the same path.Police have been trying to identify these persons, who appear to be tribal men. They may have broke into the building thinking it to be a palatial bungalow with valuables to steal, the police said. “We have informed officials of the Raj Bhawan in Jaipur and have begun our investigation into the matter. We hope to catch the accused soon,” said Meena.
