Police seize doda post, opium saplings in Jalore

In Jalore, over 15,200 opium saplings worth Rs 1.50 crore and doda post over 500kg worth lakhs of rupees, have been recovered in two separate incidents.A large number of opium saplings were also found in Jodhpur, rural. Police chased and caught Ranaram and 3.950 quintal doda post in 24 plastic sacks and an illegal pistol with two live cartridges, were recovered.

JAISALMER: Looking to forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, smuggling of doda post has increased and cultivation of opium has started, to fulfil the increasing demand. After getting the information, police have launched a wide campaign. In Jalore, over 15,200 opium saplings worth Rs 1.50 crore and doda post over 500kg worth lakhs of rupees, have been recovered in two separate incidents.A large number of opium saplings were also found in Jodhpur, rural. Similarly, in Barmer too, police have recovered illegal consignment of doda post.Jalore SP Keshar Singh Shekhawat said, campaign has been launched to prevent narcotics and team has been formed to stop supply of narcotics. At the border of Mauja Kot ka Rasta, Ramesh Puri, a resident from the village was caught cultivating opium on his field without license, from where 8,000 saplings were recovered and a case was lodged on March 14 under NDPS Act. The international cost of these plants is around Rs 80 lakh. He said that similarly, the team one caught Babu Lal, a resident of Dhasedi, who was cultivating opium, and recovered 7,200 saplings from him. A case was lodged against him on March 14 under NDPS(Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. The cost of these saplings is said to be Rs 72 lakh. In both these cases combined, the cost of saplings recovered is said to be Rs 1.52 crore.Shekhawat said that police got the information that at Akoli village, one Kuyaram had hidden doda post in his fields. When searched, total 504kg doda post was found. He was missing from his house.Similarly, opium saplings were recovered from rural Jodhpur. SP Rahul Barhat said that under Matoda police station area in Kadvasara nagar, a farmer, Kisnaram, was caught cultivating opium and they have recovered 108 saplings from there.Meanwhile, in Barmer, according to Barmer SP Rashi Dogra, police got information that one Ranaram, a resident of Bachdau was into business of illegal doda post and was on the way to Rohila. Police team then blockaded the border Lukhu area. She said that Ranaram and another man, Chokharam broke the blockading and drove towards Kavon ki Beri and later ran away leaving the vehicle behind. Police chased and caught Ranaram and 3.950 quintal doda post in 24 plastic sacks and an illegal pistol with two live cartridges, were recovered. Ranaram has been arrested. A case has been lodged under the NDPS Act, Arms Act and sections 420, 468, 471 of IPC, at Dhorimanna police station. Search is on for Chokharam.
