High court had rejected Asaram’s application for interim bail last month. But the same petition by Asaram met with repeated adjournment pleas, seeking time for arguments by his counsel. He had sought interim bail to attend to his ailing wife Laxmi Devi.Asaram has been cooling his heels in the Jodhpur Central Jail since 2013. JODHPUR: In yet another dampener to the prospects of bail and suspension of sentence for Asaram, Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday dismissed his sentence suspension application as “not pressed”, after the self-styled godman’s counsel withdrew the petition. The application was withdrawn after the division bench comprising Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice Vineet Kumar Mathur asked the defence counsel to proceed with arguments or the court would pass an order accordingly. “Seeing the stand of the court, his counsel decided to withdraw the application with a prayer of “not pressed”, so the court dismissed the petition,” said prosecution counsel P C Solanki.Confirming the petition’s dismissal, the defence counsel said, “We have withdrawn the application for suspension of sentence and would proceed with arguments on appeal against the sentence.” In the same matter, Asaram’s two co-accused — Shilpi and Sharat— have already been bailed out, following the suspension of their respective sentences.
